Solvatten is another innovator when it comes to water. The social enterprise created a revolutionary way to provide clean water to marginalised communities around the world and has since formed partnerships with several organisations and financing institutions to increase their reach while improving affordability.
By exposing water to sunlight and heating it, Solvatten purifies water by killing off common contaminants and bacteria. Solvatten grounded this science-based innovation in rigorous trials and field visits throughout Africa and Asia and is now used in over 40 countries across the globe, reaching upwards of 450,000 people.
Scaling such innovations in response to current and future regulation has the potential to positively impact freshwater consumption and the global hydrological cycle, showing that investments in technological solutions can create business value out of what was previously untapped potential. In this way, limitations become possibilities.
