Considering up and coming actors that are sustainably transforming land system change, Interface’s Factory as a Forest concept turns factories into regenerative hubs. In this concept, factories do not only produce waste–they develop products from waste. Products produced in such factories sequester carbon while supply chains transition to being transparent, connected, and circular.
Through their methodology, local ecosystems are analysed and understood, performance in relation to these ecosystems is quantified, sustainable strategies are developed, and subsequent recommendations are implemented, turning factories into learning models aligned with their surroundings. Although still in its earliest stages, this concept is a promising window into the future possibilities of sustainable business relationships with land systems.
